The
John D. Nielsen Observatory
Public
star parties are held at the
Nielsen Observatory located at the
Lorain County Metro
Parks Equestrian Center on Nickel-Plate Diagonal
Road in
Carlisle Township.
Star
parties are held only if the sky is clear.
The
John D. Nielsen Observatory
was dedicated on August 11, 2000.
It's construction was made possible by the contribution of a 4
inch Unitron refracting telescope
and a 14 inch Celestron C-14 telescope by Mrs. Rose Nielsen in
memory of her late husband.
The observatory was constructed by the Lorain Couonty Metroparks
with cooperation
through design ideas, advice, labor, and monetary contributions by
The Black River
Astronomical Society and some 38 other companies and organizations.
The
Nielsen Observatory provides a great
venue for the Black
River Astronomical Society to
fulfill its charter for educating the public in astronomy.
